Theo Monroe is the principal and founder of the Law Offices of Theodore Monroe. His practice focuses on litigation and counseling in the Internet commerce, credit card processing, direct response marketing and Federal Trade Commission enforcement arenas. Theo also has extensive experience litigating employment, complex commercial, accountant and attorney malpractice, and insurance bad faith actions. Recent representative cases include several actions against ISOs, Aquiring Banks, Internet Payment Service Providers and Processors involving mishandling of merchant funds, and a recent victory on behalf of a major direct response marketing firm in a trademark infringement action against numerous infringers of a well-known product promoted via infomercials throughout the United States and abroad.
Before opening his own firm, Theo practiced law with Crosby, Heafey, Roach & May (now Reed Smith LLP) and Lewis, D’Amato, Brisbois & Bisgaard (now Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith) where he defended numerous accounting and law firms in professional liability actions and insurance carriers in bad faith actions. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Theo worked as a forensic accountant at Coopers & Lybrand, giving him a background in forensic accounting and financial analysis unique among litigators in Los Angeles. He also served as counsel for the United States Senate campaign of Jim Bunning.
Theo holds a J.D. from Duke University Law School and a B.S. in Accounting (with Honors) from the University of Kentucky.
Theo is a member of the State Bars of California and Kentucky and is admitted to practice before all of the State courts in California, the United States District Court for the Central District of California and the Western District of Michigan, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has chaired numerous trials and arbitrations in professional liability and commercial disputes. Mr. Monroe also has served as outside general counsel to a number of companies in the Internet commerce, electronic transaction, and direct marketing areas.
